MP Francisco Miranda Branco from Fretilin, said it was important for Timor-Leste to produce an amnesty law, adding that it is important also to consult with the public before producing the law.
"We need an amnesty law so that the state leaders can carry out their role based on the law, because they will engage in abuse of power if there is no law. It means that the state leaders will make decision that will not base on the law; therefore I think that Timor Leste should have amnesty law and it is important to discuss it profoundly," Branco said.
MP Mario Viegas Carrascalao from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) said Timor-Leste had condition now to help produce the amnesty law.
"Amnesty should be educative and not to become impunity. It is important to put the rule well in the amnesty in order to facilitate the implementation of the law," he said.
