A senior advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Joao Mariano Saldanha, said that last Friday (8/7) that Timor-Leste is committed to reduce poverty in TimorLeste in 2030.
”In 2030, the target of the National Strategic Development Plan is to reduce the poverty rate in Timor-Leste,” said Saldanha. According to the government, Timor-Leste is now a low-mid income country.
However, based on 2007 Timor-Leste’s Survey of Living Standard, the poverty rate in the country was 49.9 percent. According to Finance Minister, it is not yet possible to know the current poverty rate according to the 2011 national census.
Similar survey was done in 2002 in which it was identified that there was 36.6 percent of the population living below the poverty line. The national poverty line in 2002 was US$0.55 and for 2007 was US$0.88.

The real facts and picture of poverty in Timor Leste are sadly far more accurate, transparent, clear and painfully powerful than the statistic data. If those PHDs in the AMP government can not feel and see them, then they might be living in their own planet and corrupted paradise with their delusion and stupid imagination made worse by resource curse!
