The Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in Timor-Leste, Finn Rieske Nielsen said the document naming Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao as the main obstacle to democracy in Timor-Leste was written by a Timorese staff member who works with the mission in Dili.
During a meeting with the leadership of Gusmao's party, CNRT, in Dili yesterday, Nielsen said the staff member wrote and released the document, which was published by the local media to promote his own political will.
Nielsen said his chief, Ameerah Haq, delivered UNMIT's apology to PM Gusmao and President Jose Ramos Horta last week.
Nielson promised UNMIT would make a public apology soon and said his office would give some of its equipments to the Government when its mission ended next year.
CNRT Secretary General, Deonisio Babo said his party was happy with UNMIT's apology and explanation of the details surrounding the report against Gusmao.
