Stop with such insecurities and unfounded conspiracies about small but vocal band of people backed by third parties

This is so very correct, except that the Constituent Assembly automatically turned themselves into the first Parliament without a mandate from the people.

Again they were not elected representatives. A referendum or a plebiscite would have been ideal but nothing is perfect in this world. Again, we come back to decisions that were made and foistes onto the people by those who were not legally mandated.

The above piece does not specifically reject nor attack Portuguese. We need to stray away from this.

Stop with such insecurities and unfounded conspiracies about small but vocal band of people backed by third parties with ulterior motives waging a campaign against the Portuguese language.

Stop turning this into some Italic vs. Germanic vs. Slavonic euro nonsense.
With such ludicrous conspiracies I could almost swear that the Martians are already among us!

And maybe we can turn this into an anti Martian issue is well. What with all of the insecurities and all of the complexes we all carry? Goodness!

This is not about anti Portuguese, anti Australian, anti Any other nation. Perhaps one should look beyond such insecurities. Perhaps one should read the piece (the original matter)properly and try one's utmost to understand and read between the lines. We are all intelligent beings here.

A whole generation has been marginalised and a nations aspirations ignored, and continue to be so. Who knows we could be looking at more than one or two or three or more generations effected by this. Even pre '75 the marginalisation and ignoring of native Timorese was prevelant and dare we say systematic. During the Indonesian occupation also was no different. To fllipantly bring it down to just plain old discrimination is out right disrespectful to intelligent Timorese and the nation as a whole. To bluntly ignore the aspirations of a people brings us to back to what those barbaric Indonesians had committed.

Language, we all know, is an intrinsic part of anyone's identity. We are looking at an identity in Timor that is already confused by counterless occupations, conflicts, influences, etc,. both internal and external. A complex identity that has been ignored or perhaps taken for granted by the elite or those who purport to represent the people has exacerbated the situation. Guess what my fellow human beings? Ignoring such will only eventually come back and bite one in the proverbials. Do we as intelligent human beings ever learn from history?

Interesting and helpful propositions such as 1- Just Tetum?, 2- Tetum and Indonesian?, 3- Tetum and English?, 4- Just Bahasa Indonesia?, 5- Just English? however this whole matter is beyond 'which language'. Ask people in which ever proud nation in the globe who they are and without fail the majority will tell you exactly of their pride of who they are, where they came from, etc,. This is a very complex issue for a nascent nation like Timor especially given the brutal history we all know of. And leaders and so called representatives of the people cannot blatantly just ignore this. Propositions 1-4 just mentioned are part of what is crucial for these elite and the nation to address. With the highest of respect, this is not a simple answer for any one person such as a MauLeki, or a Bibere, or a Bikolo, a Mausoko, or a Aikurus, or a Josh Trinidade to answer yes or no or simply select from propositions 1-4. Unless perhaps they are the elite. Goodness, if only life was as simple as making such multiple choice decisions.

The assistance of all other nations, cultures and languages (be they Australian, Portuguese, Indonesian, come-what-may) to help Timor to stand on her own with pride and dignity and being counted in the world arena is crucial here. Not taking offence that any one particular external nation, culture and language has or has not been attacked personally here. I don't believe the original piece/matter did that at all.
