Díli, 10jun (Lusa) -- O antigo primeiro-ministro de Timor-Leste e líder da oposição, Marí Alkatiri, defendeu que a Língua Portuguesa tem de ser desenvolvida e recusou que seja uma forma de discriminar a geração criada durante a ocupação indonésia.
Falando num seminário na Universidade Nacional Timor-Lorosae (UNTL), Mari Alkatiri disse compreender a resistência de alguns jovens à aprendizagem do Português, "porque não é fácil aprender", mas rebateu os argumentos de que "é a Língua do colonialismo" e uma imposição das gerações mais velhas aos mais novos, que os descrimina na sociedade.
"Alguns disseram que o uso da Língua Portuguesa é para descriminar os jovens. Compreendo porque a Língua Portuguesa também não é fácil de aprender, mas depois de se saber até é fácil.
A opção pela Língua Portuguesa não é para haver uma descriminação dos jovens, mas, tal como o Tétum, para a afirmação da independência de Timor-Leste", disse.
O atual líder da FRETILIN defendeu que cabe ao sistema de ensino ajudar a criar condições para aprender Português, e que isso não deve ser confundido com nova colonização.
"A Língua Portuguesa não é do colonialismo mas Língua do povo e não de qualquer regime político. É afirmar a identidade de Timor-Leste ligada à sua História.
Os timorenses aprenderam a Língua Indonésia, que também é língua do colonizador, e agora muitos querem aprender Inglês, mas a Língua Inglesa não faz parte da nossa História e a Indonésia só o fez em 24 anos", comentou.
Mari Alkatiri defendeu que a adoção da Língua Portuguesa "não é só um olhar sobre a História, mas para o futuro, porque abre caminhos no mundo", numa alusão aos países da CPLP.

Portuguese is the right choice for East Timor for many reasons.
Only ignorant people cant see that.
People can learn to speak English but the official language should be Portuguese to maintain a different identity to other countries in the region.
More people in the world speak Portuguese than German, French, Italian, Russian, or any other european language except Spanish and English.
Brasil is fast becoming a major economic power in its own right with a huge population.
People who can speak Portuguese can easily learn to speak any other european language, specially the romance languages of with Portuguese is a part of.
I think those who oppose Portuguese as an official language in Timor will be left behind by the new generation of timorese children who are way in their way to master the Portuguese language in the next decade.
Those new generations of timorese will be fluent not only in Portuguese but also in English as well as other timorese and foreign languages.
They will be a serious advantage over those poor people who can only speak English.
Only idiots can think that speaking English will over come everything. If anyone wants to learn English, feel free to do so but do not stand on other people's way.
I agree with the last commentator as more and more young timorese are working hard towards mastering portuguese. In doing so, those idiots and stubornly oppose the language will be left behind and will in the future sitting on the beach moaning and they are moaning. Now they are resisting in learning the language and later on their will blame somebody for their own stupidity. So don't be so stupid. You can learn as many language as you want but do not forget that Portuguese is your language.
A lingua potuguesa nunca foi do colonialista nem do povo. E uma lingua do mundo, de toda a gente, dos povos, para todos aqueles que a queiram receber de bracos abertos. Nao pode ser usada com intuitos politicos, muito menos por aqueles que antigamente a espezinharam. Que falta de coerencia meu Deus. Que demagogia barata.
