European Union donates Timorese Government to reduce unemployment

The European Union's representative in Timor-Leste, Clemens Potocli said they have commitment to continue donating the Government of Timor-Leste to reduce numbers of unemployment and poverty in the country.

Potocli made the statements during a meeting with the Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning Minister, Rui Hanjan, Adviser for Prime Minister for Social Issues, Joaquim Freitas and NGOs, saying the recent report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) revealed that the development process in the country is positive compared to other countries of ASEAN members, but it is important for the Government to make efforts to reduce and pay attention to the numbers of unemployment.

Hanjan, on behalf of the Government thanked the European Union, particularly for their supporting fund. He added that the Government will involve the NGOs in the budget execution in order to better develop this country in the future.

"We thank the European Union for their donation amount 3, 5 million of Euro or at least US $4, 7 million. The money is given as the result of proposal made by NGOs for the European Union in order to reduce number of the poor in the country," Hanjan said.

The Advisor for Prime Minister for Social Issues, Joaquim Freitas, said he is concerned about capability of NGOs in implementing this social fund, because there are many NGOs have not yet submitted their report to date.
