Ainaro: Four parties’ followers in Ainaro District have pledged allegiance to Fretilin.
The 2221 people, who were formerly members of the Democratic Party, Social Democrat Party, National Unity Party and Timorese People Party, made their affiliation official in a ceremony attended by Fretilin Secretary General Dr Mari Alkatiri on Sunday.
They said they were ready to give their vote to Fretilin in next year’s election.
Of the new followers, 296 were from the Democratic Party, 60 from the Social Democrat Party, 949 from the National Unity Party, and 915 from the Timorese People Party.
Team leaders from the four parties declared that they affiliated because Fretilin was their original party.
Meanwhile, Fretilin’s Aileu District Coordinator João Bosco said support for Fretilin in his district had regained strength after the crises of 2006.
“I believe all Aileu’s people are Fretilin, like in 1975,” Mr Bosco said.
Dr Alkatiri asked the people to see for themselves what the government of AMP had done during its four years in power.
