Guterres ready to respond to the courts

Deputy Prime Minister Jose Luis Guterres said he is ready to respond to the courts regarding the abuse of power case.

The Deputy Prime Minister made the comments in relation to Parliament's approval of a resolution to remove his political immunity in order to appear in court.

Guterres affirmed that he was pleased with the resolution, as it could help facilitate him to testify and respond to the courts accusation. "I am pleased because this is a decision of the Parliament.

It is important for me to appear in the courts. As an official of the Government I need to contribute to justice and the truth, because I respect the state institutions which relate to justice, because I want the truth," Guterres said.

Guterres is predicted to be tried this month at the Dili District Court.
