VIOLENCE IN BAUCAU

.
BY JOSÉ KAI LEKKE SOUSA-SANTOS

Before the forced closure of our national youth NGO 'UMA JUVENTUDE' we used to have special simu malu (conflict resolution) intervention teams comprised of youth leaders from all over the country, which we could deploy at a moments notice to intervene in community or gang violence such as what is occuring in Baucau at the moment.

Unfortunately apart from the initial funding from Mana Kirsty Gusmao, a few handouts from the New Zealand Embassy and my fiancees amd my own savings, funding or support never made available. Donors were afraid to support an initiative from the high risk youth for the high risk youth and now.....

Mind you I heard the Youth Parlament is going well, maybe you should send them in.....We have spent enough money on it after all.
