The Timorese National Police (PNTL) suspect some Timorese are involved in selling foreign girls who then engage in prostitution in the country.
"We have suspected some Timorese of engaging in selling foreign girls to get involved in prostitution in Timor-Leste," Deputy Director for Immigration Police, Luis Soares Barreto.
Soares said the smuggling of foreign girls into the country is considered to be organized crime.
Soares added that his department has cooperated with the National Investigation Police to deport some foreign nationals who misuse their visas in the country.
