MP Josefa Pereira from Fretilin has called on the Government to guarantee food security in the country; otherwise the country’s people would face famine.

She also called on the competent ministry to hold socialization on how to plant other local agricultural staples. “The competent ministry should hold socialization in the communities on how to plant local food,” MP Pereira said.

MP Mateus de Jesus said it was important for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Tourism, Commerce and Industry (MTCI) to better control people’s crops, because most of the people’s crops were wasted.

“People in the rural areas are facing food shortcomings, because they are difficult to get the MTCI subsidized rice. The Government’s subsidized rice has only fattened the enterprisers,” de Jesus said.
