GUTERRES'S CASE IS NOT AN ACT OF CORRUPTION

President Jose Ramos Horta said Deputy Prime Minister Jose Luis Guterres’ case was not a deliberate act of corruption.

The president made the comments in relation to the notification issued by the courts for suspending Guterres from his post for legal trial.

Horta affirmed that the decision of appointing Guterres’ spouse 2006 was based on aspect of humanity, so that Ana Morais could work for administration at the Timorese Consulate in New York.

Horta added that his comments were based on his own knowledge, yet the court’s decision will determine it.

This may be true.

But more importantly, will Horta ever respect the principles of separation of powers and the sub judice rule?

And to think that he once considered himself a suitable candidate for UN Secretary-General!!
