Fretilin Secretary-General Mari Alkatiri said giving money to the people was not good solution to combat poverty in the country, but it would create dependency of the people on the Government.
Alkatiri stressed that it is important for the Government to create good condition and ensure security and stability in the country, so that people could carry out their daily activities calmly.
Alkatiri also called on all people to contribute to combating poverty in the country as the poverty is a national issue.
“I think poverty is national problem which needs to be eradicated. Combating poverty should not be doing through policy on distributing money, providing subsidies, but the important thing is the Government should create proper conditions, so that people can leave in a peaceful situation which leads to increasing of the people’s incomes,” Alkatiri said.
