Brigadier General Lere Anan Timur said he was concerned about the Australian force, as was making Timor-Leste a site for training. “I think it is good if they comes and hold joint training with the Timorese Defense Force (F-FDTL), but they are now holding training themselves in Illiomar (Lospalos) and therefore I think this is not good.
We are the land lord and therefore we have responsibility to manage our country and other countries’ people should not come to do things based on their own will. We still need one another but all things should be going through rules,” General Lere said.
General Lere added that the F-FDTL institution is now capable of maintaining security for the country’s stabilization, adding that the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) mission would end in 2012 and therefore technically the F-FDTL still need their support. “I think our force is capable now but not in all aspects. We still need help in technical aspect from Australia, particularly the advisor,” Genral Lere said.
