CHINESE GOVT AGREES WITH PM GUSMÃO´S REQUEST

Foreign Affairs Minister, Zacarias Albano da Costa said Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had agreed with request made by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, asking the Chinese Government to provide the country with material and financial supports.

Minister da Costa said the Chinese Government would realize its commitment by providing 50,000 tons of rice to Timor-Leste this year. "They have agreed the request of Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao and they will import 50,000 tons of rice into the country," Minister da Costa said.

Minister da Costa added that he has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Minister for Tourism and Commerces they would provide money worth US$ 7 million, adding that the money would be spent for HQ of the Timorese National Police (PNTL),particularly for BOP [special police] in Baucau District.

Minister da Costa also said the Chinese Government would also create a package by allocating money totally 1,6 billion of Renmimbi [ChineseCurrency] to help support Portuguese Language Speaking Countries (CPLP)in Africa and Asian regions.
