Woodside Company has retreated from its floating LNG plant for the Timorese Greater Sunrise gas and oil field after going through a process of negotiation which was held in the country recently.
State Secretary for Natural Resources, Alfredo Pires said initially the Woodside Company only wanted to present its proposal on the floating plant, but after the recent meeting they retreated and then preferred presenting three positions.
The three options are the pipelines need to be built to Darwin or to Timor-Leste and the third one is the floating plant. Pires made the comments after a meeting between a joint commission and commission for the Greater Sunrise.
Pires added that it was positive for Timor-Leste to fight for building the Greater Sunrise’s pipelines building to the country.

The price of LNG is now falling, due to oversupply. So there is no longer a commercial urgency to proceed with haste to pipe the gas anywhere!
And so long as the gas stays in the ground, corrupt East Timorese politicians and their friends cannot become more rich from gas.
The only urgency which remains is terrible poverty in Bobonaro, Covalima, Iliomar, Same etc etc.
Not that the AMP government really cares about those people!
