FRETILIN's role as the opposition is limited by how much "dirt" the PM has on FRETILIN and vice versa. The same goes for the President.
Therefore the state institutions and accountability mechanisms are weakened to allow major flexibility for the leaders (opposition and state institutions) to play out their charade.
The victims are those who are not complicit and the people, whom everyone claims to represent and in whose interest all actions are justified.
It will take a generational change, provided the new generation of leaders don’t allow themselves to be tainted.
Yet again, the new generation of leaders who maintain a distance are either castigated or every attempt made to destroy them.
In the famous/infamous words of Secretary of State Agio Pereira "...if the water is murky, don’t dare to swim in clean waters..."

FRETILIN has never refused any investigation into any cases of maladministration, corruption etc during their time goverment. They have openenly declared to take any cases against them to court if they existed so when you speak of this so called "dirt", you are wrong. They themselves even brought cases forward during their own time in government. So in terms of accountability and transperancy FRETILIN stand strong by this.
