NO INTERNATIONAL COURT FOR SERIOUS CRIME COMMITTED, SAYS HORTA

President Jose Ramos Horta said Timor-Leste would not set up international court for serious crime which was committed in 1999 by Indonesian armed force and its pro-militiamen.

The president made the comments during an opening dialog for national consensus on how to realize truth, reconciliation and justice at the officer of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Horta expressed his concerns over some NGOs which have continued urging the establishment of the international court to try the perpetrators.

According to him the establishment of the international court has not been relevant to the country’s reality right now.

Horta affirmed that he was also urging the international court to be set up, it was years ago when his still an activist, but now he could not do that, due to he is the president of a country and he preferred building good relationship with Indonesia.

During the pre-independence he used the presence of other oppressed groups. . . . !

East-Timorse should not rely on these leaders to have justice. Instead they should lookfoward for another generation who is willing to do. Before this happens we might await for a very long haul.

The current generation will not do it either!
