Fretilin Secretary General Mari Alkatiri said Timor-Leste should not close door to dialog and negotiation with Australia regarding its proposal of asking to set up asylum seekers processing center.
“Now we do not open the door to dialog, in the past Indonesia invaded us, but we held dialog and negotiation with them. So Australia can make proposal, but it cannot take decision, the decision is taken by us,” Alkatiri said.
The ex-prime minister stressed that he was not against the dialog Timor-Leste was thinking about, yet the country had to know first about substance of the materials.
Alkatiri also said Australia was making a lip service, as they were about to hold their general elections; therefore they made this lip service.
Meanwhile, MP from the Democratic Party (PD), Adriano Nacimento said the Parliament would firmly not to receive any kind of proposal from the Australian Government.
