Minister for Justice, Lucia Lobato said she was ready to resign from her post to respond to the court regarding the ex-militia commander, Maternus Bere’s release case.
Lobato stressed that at that time of releasing Bere, she asked to resign from her post, yet her request was rejected by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
Lobato also said PM Gusmao threatened to resign if she [Minister Lobato] resigned, as he [Gusmao] was the one who had ordered her to release Bere.
She added that it was necessary to investigate the country’s Prosecutor General Ana Pessoa, as she was engaged.
