HAK [Timorese Human Rights Association] has called on President Jose Ramos Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao to be responsible for the release of the ex-militia commander, Maternus Bere last year.
HAK said Bere’s release was not Justice Minister, Lucia Lobato’s fault, yet Horta and Gusmao should also be responsible for the release, because these two leaders were involved in decision making.
Director for HAK, Rui Viana said everyone should be subject to the law, it should not be applied only to the ordinary people; he therefore called on the Public Prosecution to summon the president and prime minister to respond to it in the Public Prosecution.
Viana added that President Horta and Prime Minister Gusmao should be responsible for that, being leader should be a good example for the people to follow.
