The Timorese Parliamentary President Fernando “Lasama” de Araujo said the decision made to free the ex-militia commander Maternus Bere was the right decision as it had brought positive impact on the country’s people to live in a peaceful situation at this time.
Lasama stressed that the Government was regulated by the law, but the Government had power to make political decision in order to guarantee peace and stability within the country.
Lasama added that it was important to defend national interest rather than a prisoner and therefore decision made by the Government was positive.
“This is a political decision that should be made by the State at that time. We all abide by the law but we can make decision any time as well.
If people say the State decision is a crime then all the Government officers are criminals but not only the Justice Minister Luci Lobato,” Lasama said.
