The CPD-RDTL [a resistance organization] members in the Region of Viqueque have declared that they will not take part in the country’s 2010 national census of population.

Census Coordinator for Viqueque district, David de Oliveira said his side had tried to approach the CPD-RDTL members, but they continue rejecting it. Oliveira stressed that the CPD-RDTL endorsed process of the census, but they would not take part in the registration, as it against the CPD-RDTL’s policy.

“We met with the CPD-RDTL Coordinator, Sisto asking him to organize his followers, but we were not able to convince him, as they continue defending their political principles,” Oliveira said.

Meanwhile, Viqueque Police Commander, Justino Menezes said the law did not force anyone or any citizen to participate in the census, but the important thing was everyone should contribute to stability of the country.

“They do not intimidate the team of census, they just do not want to take part in the census,” Menezes said.
