Alfredo Reinado's video made it clear that he was used, as were the petitioners for political purposes to bring down the FRETILIN government in 2006. The Independent Eminent Persons Report in 2006 said that the petitioners were manipulated for political purposes. F-FDTL Marine Captain Pedro Klamar Fuik, who liaised on the case of the petitioners with the then President of the Republic, wrote that there was concerted action against the Alkatiri government in an article published in 2007.
Speak to many police and F-FDTL people and they will confirm the same. There is no guarantee that we will ever get to the bottom of this sad period in our history.
There is only one guarantee, FRETILIN and its allies will never do to any government (legitimate or not, de facto or de jure) or to the Maubere people what those who were so hungry for power in 2006-7 did to Timor-Leste (and FRETILIN and its supporters) in 2006-7.
2010-2020 will be "The Decade of Peace, Stability and Development for Timor-Leste". FRETILIN will ensure this happens, and calls on all other political groups and personalities to do the same, by respecting the law and constitution, and the desire of the Maubere people to live in peace.
