US President Barack Obama named Judith Fergin, a career diplomat, to serve as the new US ambassador to East Timor, the White House said Tuesday.
Fergin, who is currently consul general in Sydney, Australia, will replace Hans Klemm as the ambassador in Dili, if her nomination is confirmed by the Senate.
Her overseas postings have included Indonesia, Russia, Liberia, South Africa and Germany, according to the White House. East Timor last month celebrated its eighth year of independence from Indonesia.
