MOUNT Lawley Senior High School students had a special visitor this week, Her Excellency Kirsty Sword Gusmao, founding director of the Alola Foundation which seeks to improve the lives of women in East Timor.

A former first lady of East Timor and wife of Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, she paid a visit to the school to accept a donation to her charity.

Students collected clothing and raised funds to send supplies to a school in Timor Leste which will go towards helping women and children in the area.

Head boy Jack Morris and head girl Georgie Dolgoy presented the clothing.

Principal Stephen Spice said he was very proud of his students’ work.

“They always stand up when the community is in need,” Mr Spice said.

Mrs Sword Gusmao expressed her heartfelt thanks to the students and the school.

“It’s wonderful to see the school committing themselves to assisting those less fortunate,” she said.
