The East Timorese Government has made thinly veiled threats against Woodside Petroleum and its partners in developing the Greater Sunrise gas field in the Timor Sea. The Government noted that under a treaty with Australia, certain benchmark dates are set for the first output from the asset, and that a further extension of the lease from 2026 could be in jeopardy.
It is unhappy at an analysis presented by Woodside that claims a floating LNG production platform is far more cost-effective than a plant on the East Timorese mainland.
