East Timor's President Jose Ramos-Horta says he's pleased Austalia is trying to make its aid program more effective.
Dr Ramos-Horta has just begun a seven day visit to Australia in the northern city of Darwin.
He says aid will be on the agenda for talks with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in Canberra later this week.
And he's welcomed a review of aid in East Timor being undertaken by Australia's overseas aid program AusAid.
"Particularly targetting rural poverty, rural roads and sanitation so that the money for every dollar Australian taxpayers deliver to Timor-leste helps communities in need in Timor-leste," he said.
