Fretilin President Francisco Guterres “Lu-Olo” and his Secretary General Mari Alkatiri have many times made comments that current Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao would return to Fretilin one day, but Gusmao has decided not to return to his home called Fretilin as he does not want to be opportunist.
“I have been out of the Fretilin, if I return people would say I am an opportunist,” Gusmao said.
Gusmao said he decided not to join Fretilin because after independence he knew well attitude the leaders in the Fretilin party.
Gusmao therefore established a new political party known as CNRT [National Congress for the Timorese Reconstruction] to liberate people from the poverty.
