The State Secretary for Natural Resources, Alfredo Pires, has saidthat he has no power to decide whether the pipeline installation fromthe Greater Sunrise to the country or not, but he said he has power tocancel the Woodside’s option presented recently.
“I have power to cancel the pipeline if it is installed in another country,” Pires said.
Pires added that the Government has firmly maintain its position to build up the pipeline to the country due to the result of recent viability study conducted by the Petronas Company from Malaysia has supported that it is possible to install pipeline to Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, a national NGO Luta Hamutuk has recently called to the Government to be transparent in the negotiation of the Greater Sunrise oil and gas pipeline installation.
In response to this case, Pires said that his part will not reveal the strategies of the Government strategy of negotiation to the public as it is secrete.
At the same time the Secretary General of Fretilin, Mari Alkatiri, has called for the Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão not to give up in negotiating with the Woodside Company to bring the LNG pipelines to Timor-Leste.
