Sebastião XimenesSebastiao Dias Ximenes was re-elected by the National Parliament as Provedor (Ombudsman) for Human Rights and Justice.
Despite being Xanana Gusmao's choice his own party deserted him and FRETILIN delivered 19 votes that delivered the majority of at least 33 votes (35 votes were cast for Ximenes) needed to re-elect Ximenes.
A total number of 57 MPs were present. Three MPs from Gusmao's own parliamentary group, signed the proposal for the opposing candidate Ivo Valente. This is a vote of confidence in the anti-corruption and human rights advocacy work of Mr. Ximenes as Provedor since 2004.
