Australian woman Angelita Pires has been found not guilty of plotting to kill East Timor's top two political leaders.
Ms Pires was one of 28 people who faced a seven-month trial for allegedly conspiring to or attempting to assassinate president Jose Ramos-Horta and prime minister Xanana Gusmao in February 2008.
At the time Ms Pires, 44, was the lover of rebel leader Alfredo Reinado, who was shot dead in a gunfight that left Dr Ramos-Horta critically wounded.
After an eight-month battle in East Timor's courts and evidence from 130 witnesses, a panel of three judges delivered the verdict in Dili this afternoon.
An ABC reporter inside the courtroom said Ms Pires wiped away tears during the proceedings.
Prosecutors had alleged Ms Pires played a key role in the attempt on the president's life.
During the trial the prosecution argued that Reinado led the attack and Ms Pires encouraged him to carry it out.
The defence argued Reinado was lured to the president's home to be killed and that there was never any plot to kill Dr Ramos-Horta.
If found guilty, Ms Pires would have faced a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
