Lisbon, 09 Mar (AP) - The President of Timor-Leste "is not opposed" to the creation of an international tribunal to try crimes committed during the conflict with Indonesia, "in spite of being personally against it," the Minister for Foreign Affairs of that country told Lusa today.
According to a statement issued today by Amnesty International, Ramos Horta who is East Timor’s head of state, told the human rights advocacy organization’s Secretary General during a meeting last Friday afternoon that he supports the establishment of an international criminal court to prosecute these crimes.
According to Amnesty International, Ramos Horta had also criticized the United Nations (UN) of "hypocrisy" for using the position of "anti court" of the Timorese Government as "an excuse" not to proceed with the establishment of a court.
